Enhancing Transparency:A Digital Transformation for LCYCC

London City Airport Consultative Committee (formerly LCACC) exists to provide a positive, inclusive forum to discuss all aspects of the airport’s development and operations that impact airport users and people living/working nearby.

The independent London City Airport Consultative Committee (LCYCC) first convened in 1987. Since then, London City Airport has grown into a bustling international airport bringing national and local benefits, as well as some downsides for nearby residents in terms of noise and congestion.

The Brief

In 2023, London City Airport was embarking on a huge operation to refresh and relaunch its main website (which we did), along with a host of smaller associated ‘satellite sites’. One of which was LCYCC.

The existing website was outdated and difficult to maintain. Our objective was to revamp the user experience, to ensure everyone could access up-to-date information on meetings and annual reports.

The Solution

Discovery Workshops with the client and key stakeholders revealed that the primary audience groups were local community groups, sub-committees (environment, transport), residents and MPs.

A lot of the pain points we uncovered centred around accessing resources. In response, our core focus was nailing content hierarchy, discovery and flow.

To achieve this, we stripped back the number of pages and highlighted key functionality at the wireframe stage. We honed in on Meetings and Reports, and reworked the entire section. This gave us the opportunity to develop interactive functionality, including shareable pop-up modals, simplistic filtering and tagging.

During the project, the name LCACC was changed to LCYCC. We crafted a suite of fresh logos for the brand, optimised for web, social and print.

Technology

The site employs the latest front-end best practices to ensure content is delivered in a fast and efficient manner.

Front-end frameworks such as Nuxt 3 are used to provide an excellent basis for development allowing seamless integration with Contentful a headless CMS application for swift content caching and delivery.

This has resulted in a direct decrease in page speed and page load times respectively as well as an overall decrease in TTI (the moment a user can interact with the website).

Overall, these technologies contribute to an enhanced user experience when interacting with key website functionality including the Meetings and Reports archive and individual agendas.

Result

Through our long-term collaborative partnership, LCYCC was launched successfully on-time and on-budget inline with the wider relaunch strategy.

This new website offers flexibility, futureproofing and security as the organisation enters an exciting new chapter. With a refreshed presence, it provides anyone interested in the airport’s developments with transparent information.
