Hey! ConferenceRoundup

Hey All Day - Cover

On the 2nd of May 2024, we headed up to Hey! Conference for an all-star lineup of the industry’s finest minds. Hey! is an inclusive place for developers, designers and technology leaders to hear from others and contribute to the discussion.

To summarise the day, we’ve collected our very favourite highlights:

Backend Developer, Adam

“My highlight would have to be both of the Monzo talks; The first one especially, with migrating existing code over to TypeScript, it was interesting to see that they came up with their own tooling to make this process easier, this has made me start to think, could we incorporate some tooling in a similar fashion?”

Technical Director, Christian

“Awesome day with a mixture of non-tech and tech talks, including a talk from a previous member of the Effect team! The Leeds creative community is thriving, and evidently so at the event. Monzo did a couple of great talks, showing how they balance internal stakeholder requirements and use event tracking and analytics to inform (and even rollback) UI decisions.”

Head of UX and UI, Sanjay

“It was a fantastic day filled with insightful talks and great surroundings. All the sessions were enlightening, but the highlight for me was the talk by Heldiney Pereira and Giorgio Baglioni from Monzo.

Titled ‘The Snakes and Ladders of Creating Safe, Fast, and Delightful Payments,’ their presentation delved into the complexities of product strategy and development, providing valuable insights on maintaining sanity amidst the challenges.”

Senior Frontend Developer, Jamie

“The main highlights from me would have to be the first talk from Sophie Koonin at Monzo discussing updating legacy technologies and tooling whilst still progressing with ongoing development tasks with the introduction of Typescript and the phasing out of Flow from their build processes. I thoroughly enjoyed the talk and the key takeaways during the presentation providing an insight into how to handle a migration well. The cinema venue and the sofa style seats were a plus too.”

We’re always open to new ideas, and can’t wait to put these learnings into practice. 👀
